CHC30408 - Certificate III in Disability

The Certificate III in Disability can lead to a career working  in the community and/or residential facilities under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans. These workers carry out activities related to the maintenance of an individual’s personal care and /or other activities of living. These workers report directly to a supervisor and are not responsible for other workers.

Entry Requirements

There are no special entry requirements for this qualification however it is recommended students are 18 years of age and have a minimum sound level in English and Maths. Students are required to have the ability to read and write simple documents and collect basic numeral data. You must also undergo a police check for a criminal background in order to work in this field. A senior First Aid Certificate is strongly recommended.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy

ABRA QLD supports all learners by profiling their individual language, literacy and numeracy skills prior to commencement and throughout the training and assessment process.

Qualification Requirements

To achieve a Certificate III in Disability, students must complete fourteen units for this qualification, comprising:

  • Nine Core Units
  • Five Elective Units
  • Minimum 80 hours Vovational Placement

Assessment

The experienced ABRA QLD Training Team adopts a supportive, flexible and holistic approach in assessing competence against the units for each of the qualifications on our scope. All learners with ABRA QLD are offered the opportunity for recognition of pre-existing skills, knowledge and experience (RPL) towards their qualification upon enrolment.

Our assessment strategies cover a range of methods that may include written question and answers, reports, group activities, practical work, observation and discussion. Some courses require successful completion of a Vocational Placement as part of the assessment process.

Career Possibilities

Successful completion of this qualification provides you with the opportunity to gain entry level positions as:

  • a community/disability support worker in community or residential settings
  • a disability employment support worker
  • an accommodation worker
  • a care/home care assistant

The Certificate III in Disability will enable students to establish a career path to Certificate IV Disability and also to higher industry roles.
Currently in Australia there is a shortage of qualified disability support workers, employment prospects are many and varied.

Delivery

This program is delivered by distance using electronic mail (email). In general students have to complete this qualification within 12 months. However, as our distance education is self-paced, students can complete this course in less than this time.
